This cast iron Uncle Sam mechanical bank is a replica of the rare original Shepard Hardware Company version, first released in 1880.
It is thought that it was originally meant to be a joke item, depicting the US government (Uncle Sam) taking citizens' money.
The bank has an articulated arm that moves to deposit the coins from Uncle Sam's hand. The moneybox is hand-painted with great attention to detail, making for a very impressive, collectible item.
